First Steps Toward Artificial Gravity

Have scientists been able to artificially generate a gravitational field? Researchers at the European Space Agency believe so. The effect is very small, so don't expect to see it used in spacecraft any time soon. But the effect is still many times larger than the predictions of Einstein's theories.

The South Park Scientology Episode

According to MSNBC, it looks like Tom Cruise threatened to stop promoting the upcoming "Mission Impossible III" film unless they pulled a South Park episode from television that was supposed to air that made fun of Scientology. So basically Cruise is taking the movie hostage unless he gets his way. The studio (which also owns the comedy network) has apparently submitted to the almighty demands of Cruise and pulled the show.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) said:

"So, Scientology, you have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun. Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"

Well, here's that show on YouTube! :)

Next Gen Contact Lenses During Night Only

The concept of OrthoKeratology dates back to ancient China where it was discovered that sleeping with small bags of sand on your eyes improved your vision the following day.

OrthoKeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical process which reshapes (flattens) the cornea of the eye using custom made contact lenses during the night to reduce refractive errors (nearsightedness and astigmatism). The patient would take the lenses out in the morning and they are able to see the rest of the day without any glasses or contact lenses.

Accelerated Ortho-K uses reverse geometry contact lenses. Flattening the cornea reduces the focusing power of the eye. If the amount of corneal flattening is accurately controlled, it is possible to bring the eye into correct focus and compensate for myopia (nearsightedness). After the contact lens is removed, the cornea retains its flattened shape for part or all of the remainder of the day. A retainer lens must be used each night to maintain the corneal flattening, or the myopia will revert to the pre-treatment level. Ortho-K is also successful for some degrees of farsightness by steepening the central cornea.

Right On Time!

Morbror igen!
